UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera alleged in Parliament today that some of the police officers handling the investigation into the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra have been transferred and that there seems to be a coverup in the probe.
Speaking during an adjournment debate moved by the UNP on the breakdown in the law and order situation in the country, Mr. Jayasekera said that the family memebers of the slain leader too had expressed such fears.
“I warned in Parliament a week before the incident that there were many persons operating in the Kolonnawa area carrying illegal wepons, but my warnings were ignored, and I was removed from Parliament. If some action was taken then, this murder would have been avoided,” he said.
The MP also questioned how Lakshman Hulugalle has gone on record saying that MP Duminda Silva is not a suspect in the case. “It is the Police who should be speaking on the investigations. How can Mr.Hulugalle rule anyone out as a suspect,” he asked.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage who spoke later denied that Mr.Hulugalle had made such a statement.
Meanwhile Mr.Jayasekera also said while he admired the that Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa was doing with regards to beautifying Colombo, he does not approve of his involvment in Politics.
“He should be appointed Minister of Defence or Urban Development. Then he can engage in politics. Otehrwise he is acting in violation of the Establishment Code,” he said. |
