Heroin shortage artificial?

An artificial shortage of heroin has been created in the market in order to jack up the retail prices, according to sources.

Price of a fix has been increased from Rs. 350 to 750.

However, Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana  told The Island that the heroin shortage was due to increased number of anti narcotic raids conducted by the police. During the last two weeks 140 drug addicts and peddlers had been arrested, including four females.

Following the price increase the hardcore addicts have found it difficult to go without a fix, according to the police.

Price of heroin in outstations had gone up to Rs 1,200 per packet in some areas, SP Rohana said.
